The Life-Changing Work of DSPs
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of our company, and we are proud to celebrate them from September 8th through the 14th in observance of DSP Week.
The work of DSPs is life changing. They serve as caregivers for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), and are dedicated to helping clients thrive through daily education, support, and skills development in residential or outpatient settings. Through the work of DSPs, people with IDDs are able to live more independent, fulfilling lives and play more active roles in their communities.
There is a strong ripple effect to the positive impact of DSPs. By helping those with IDDs, DSPs are also supporting:
- Client Families: Knowing a trained professional is providing necessary care to a loved one brings comfort to family members
- Communities: Promoting independence for clients and advocating for them breaks down barriers and creates more inclusive, accepting communities.
Clarvida provides IDD services in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Oregon, and DSPs make up a large portion of the workforce in these markets. With all DSPs do to brighten lives and communities, it’s an honor for us to celebrate them this week. We are showcasing one of Clarvida’s core values each day through special activities and events, including:
- Making Clarvida bracelets using blue and yellow beads, as well as letters that spell out “Clarvida” or one of our values as part of our “Team Spirit” day of advocacy.
- Enjoying A Cup of Joe with our CEO on our “Donut Give Up” day of resilience.
- Promoting self-compassion on “Wellness Wednesday” through pop-up zen spaces and a Chair Yoga and Mindfulness session.
